March Articulation FREEBIES!

While looking in my March speech and language bin, I realized I only had about two activities in there for the month.  Yikes!  I quickly whipped up two general articulation games with a St. Patrick's day theme.

In this freebie, there is the classic "roll and cover" game that can work with any target sound.  You can work on targets sounds in isolation, words, phrases, or sentences.  For maximum production, I have my students say their target the amount they rolled on the dice.  They can then cover their number with a chip/eraser/etc.  Whoever covers their board first, wins!

The next game targets sounds at the conversational, generalization, and carry over phase.  Patrick the Leprechaun will be listening for how you use your target sounds while you answer these questions.  Students roll the dice to see which questions they will answer.

Secret Valentine Articulation Sort

Wow!  It's been a long time since I've posted a product.  However, Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday, so I had to do it!

Actual mailboxes not included, but can be found cheap in the Target dollar bins!

This is a game that targets both articulation and phonemic awareness.  Students draw articulation card, or in this case a valentine, and have to determine if it should be delivered to Izzy Initial, Mikey Medial, or Frannie Final by figuring out if their target sound is in the initial, medial, or final position of the word.  You can practice at any level by saying the target word or having the student create a sentence about it.  This game is made extra motivating by having "secret valentine" cards mixed in with the articulation cards.  If they come across a secret valentine, the get to keep it for themselves.  Whoever has the most secret valentines at the end of the game, wins!

It targets some common phonemes in error, including: /k/, /g/, /f/, /j/, /l/, /r/, /s/, /v/, /z/, /ch/, /sh/, and /th/.

Growing Vegetable Soup

I decided to make one more unit before my maternity leave is over so I would have at least two weeks worth of lessons done for my preschoolers!

Since it is Spring, I decided to make a unit pertaining to the book, Growing Vegetable Soup.  This book is wonderfully simple and great for Spring.

The unit I created addresses vocabulary, answering questions, sequencing, reasoning, scanning, associations, turn taking, and comparing/contrasting all related to gardening and vegetables!  I was also thinking it might be fun to actually plant little plants with the kids!  That would be a great way to work on sequencing and following directions in a real life context.  Now, I just need to find cheap little flower pots...

If you want to check out my Growing Vegetable Soup unit, feel free to visit my TeachersPayTeachers store here.  Below are some examples from the unit.

What fun Spring activities are you all doing?

Bug Prepositions!

I'm still dreaming of Spring weather, so I created a Spring related prepositional game that centers around bugs and insects!  And, the best part is it's free!

Learn and reinforce prepositions (above, below, beside, between) using adorable bug and insect themed cards.  Use the cards for drill, memory, a lotto game, or go-fish!  Great for Spring or for kids who are fascinated by insects!  Prepositions are shown in pictures with a fill-in the blank sentence below.

This Activity includes:
2 Sets (9 Playing Card Per Set) of Above/Below
2 Sets (9 Playing Cards Per Set) of Beside/Between
6 Lotto Boards

Directions:
Drill- Use cards to drill and teach prepositional phrases (above, below, beside, between).

Memory- Turn playing cards upside-down on table top.  Take turns flipping over two cards at a time to find a match.  If you find a match, you keep the cards and get an extra turn.  If you do not find a match, it is the next person’s turn.  When flipping over card, state prepositional term by filling in sentence.  For younger kids, read sentence aloud or ask where the bug is located.  Older students can read and fill in the blank independently.

Go-Fish-  Shuffle playing cards.  Each player gets five cards.  Take turns asking partners, “Do you have…”  (ex: “Do you have the caterpillar next to the ladybug?).  If they find a matching card, set the match down and take another turn.  If there is no match, they must draw another card from the pile.  The first player to get rid of all their cards by finding their matches is the winner.

Lotto- Each player gets one lotto card.  Place playing cards face down on the table.  Take turns picking the top card on the table.  If it matches a card on your lotto board, place the card on top of the matching picture.  Fill in the blank or ask questions pertaining to prepositions on each turn.  The first person to fill their lotto board is the winner.
